I did this painting because the composition has interesting shapes, colors and textures. It also relates to the poor people, one of the two subjects of my grant proposal. Some of these people were sleeping between the two buildings and this had created problems. The opening had to be boarded up. This was done with a large piece of plywood.

I painted this scene in the evening sun, the time most of the people came to find their resting place.
